Cybersecurity Workshop

Cybersecurity is no longer optional, it is a core skill for every engineer.

This practical, hands-on workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of cybersecurity, digital forensics, web security, network traffic analysis, OSINT, and incident response.

Over three engaging sessions, participants will learn how to analyse suspicious files, inspect web and network traffic, decode hidden clues, understand basic vulnerabilities, and conduct a beginner-friendly digital investigation using real-world tools and techniques.

The workshop is designed for beginners who are curious about cybersecurity and want to build practical, industry-relevant skills through guided labs and a final team-based challenge.


Day 1 – Cybersecurity Foundations, Cryptography & File Triage

  • Workshop ethics, safe-use rules, and responsible disclosure
  • Introduction to offensive and defensive cybersecurity
  • Introduction to CTFs and beginner challenge-solving methodology
  • Encoding vs. encryption vs. hashing
  • SHA256 and MD5 hashing
  • Introduction to CyberChef
  • File type vs. file extension
  • Metadata extraction from images and documents
  • Strings analysis
  • Basic indicators of compromise

Day 2 – Web Application Security & Network Traffic Analysis

  • HTTP requests and responses
  • Headers, cookies, parameters, and sessions
  • Browser Developer Tools
  • Web proxy basics
  • Burp Suite / OWASP ZAP workflow
  • Introduction to OWASP Top 10
  • SQL Injection basics
  • Cross-Site Scripting basics
  • Bug bounty methodology and ethical testing limits
  • Basic IP, DNS, HTTP, and TLS concepts
  • Wireshark filtering and packet inspection
  • Difference between packet captures and summarized logs
  • Identifying suspicious hosts, domains, and communication patterns

Day 3 – Digital Forensics, OSINT, Incident Thinking & Mini CTF

  • Basic log interpretation
  • Introductory YARA and Sigma concepts

  • Technical write-up preparation

Exciting Mini CTF on Day 3! 🏆

At the end of the workshop, participants will take part in a team-based Mini CTF and investigation challenge.

Teams will solve a series of beginner-friendly but exciting cybersecurity problems using the tools and techniques learned throughout the workshop.

The challenge will include:

  • File analysis
  • Decoding
  • Web clues
  • Network artifacts
  • OSINT
  • Basic incident investigation

The winning team will receive a surprise gift.
